Pumpkin Varieties

Since it’s our third year selling pumpkins to the Austin, TX area, we decided to offer ALL of the pumpkins.

But did you know that pumpkins are actually part of the squash family? And there are a lot of different varieties out there, not just the typical Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin. So while some may be best for eating and others for carving, Papa Noel’s has them all! Check out all of the pumpkins we’re offering at some of our locations this year.

Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkin

Sizes: M, L, XL
Jack O Lantern Pumpkins are the traditional Halloween-style round-shaped pumpkins with bright orange outer flesh that is perfect for carving out spooky faces and popping a tea light in. The carved-out inside orange flesh is great for recipes in the kitchen too, from delicious homemade Pumpkin Pies or warming Curried Pumpkin Soup – ideal after an evening trick or treating!

Heirloom Mix

This Heirloom PUMPKIN Mix offers a variety of PUMPKIN, such as PUMPKIN Big Max, Buttercup, Butternut Treated, Golden Nugget, Jack Be Little, Jap or Kent, Jarrahdale, Musque De Provence, Orange Hokkaido, Queensland Blue, Small Sugar and Waltham Butternut

Mixed Mini’s

A spooktacular blend of mini pumpkins. These white, orange and striped pumpkins make a great addition to any fall or Halloween display. The kids will love growing, harvesting, and displaying these charmers! It provides an adorable mix of small decorative pumpkins that are also great for eating. The semi-bush pumpkin plants of this variety will produce great yields. This small pumpkin seeds mixture contains Bumpkin Pumpkin, Gooligan Pumpkin and Hooligan Pumpkin varieties.

Pumpkins will grow roughly 4-6 ounces in size and have beautiful shades of orange and white.

Mellow Yellow

Mellow Yellow pumpkins are large, averaging 25 to 27 centimeters in diameter and 27 to 30 centimeters in length, and have a uniform, round shape with prominent, vertical ribbing. The rind is smooth and bright yellow, connecting to a straight, rough, and brown-green stem. Underneath the rind, the ivory flesh is dense, firm, and crisp, encasing a central cavity filled with stringy pale-yellow fibers and oval, cream-colored seeds. When cooked, Mellow Yellow pumpkins develop a tender consistency and have a mild, earthy, and slightly sweet flavor.

Turks Turban

(C. maxima) (aka French Turban, Turk’s Cap) Predates the 1820s; may be the ancestral form of American Turban. Distinctive turban-shaped fruits grow up to 12″ in diameter and weigh an average of 5 pounds. Beautiful bright orange skin streaked with light and dark olive green. Great decorative squash for fall displays. Thick flesh is mildly sweet. 80-100 days.

Pie Pumpkins

Pie pumpkins are small to medium in size, averaging 15-20 centimeters in diameter and weighing only 2-6 pounds, and are round, globular, and uniform in shape. The smooth orange rind has shallow and light vertical ridging that connects into a thick, ridged, green-brown stem. The flesh is moist, pale orange, fine-grained, and dense encasing a central cavity filled with pulp and flat, cream-colored seeds. When cooked, Pie pumpkins are tender and buttery with a sweet, earthy, and nutty flavor. Pie pumpkins are available in the fall through early winter.

One Too Many

The pumpkin that looks like a bloodshot eyeball. There’s a character in every crowd, and it’s no different in the pumpkin patch. These 20 pound round to oblong fruits have a white background accented with midribs and stippled veins of red. Intermediate resistance to powdery mildew. This is a truly distinctive ornamental pumpkin that has great decorative potential. Large vines produce white fruit that is laced with reddish-colored veins. The pumpkins resemble a bloodshot eye and weigh 20 to 25 lbs. One Too Many can vary in shape from round to flattened oblong shape.

Big Doris

Big Doris sets strong yields of large uniform fruit in only 100 days, even at tighter plantings. The 30 lb. fruit are medium orange with moderate ribbing and strong thick stems. Typically sizes at a 35 bin count. Intermediate resistance to powdery mildew.

Fairy Tale

A French heirloom cousin of ‘Cinderella’ – shaped just like the magic carriage. Smooth skin in dark green to tan and deeply ribbed. Introduced in the United States in 1895. Fairytale pumpkins are medium to large in size, averaging 30-45 centimeters in diameter and weighing 15-20 pounds, and is round with a squat, flattened shape and a sturdy, light brown stem. The smooth rind is deeply lobed with prominent ribbing and transforms from a dark green to a rich light-brown to tan when mature. The bright orange flesh is thick, firm, and fine-textured encasing a small central cavity that contains some pulp and flat, cream-colored seeds. When cooked, Fairytale pumpkins are smooth, creamy, and tender with a spicy scent and a mild, sweet flavor.

Mixed Wing Gourds

Gourd ‘Autumn Wings’ is an annual plant with reclining or trailing shoots. In the period from late summer to the autumn, it produces much unique fruit that comes in three beautiful colours, including yellow, orange and green. The fruit resembles exotic fish with waving fins. It is recommended to harvest the fruit during the autumn before the first frosts come. An ideal plant for arbors and fences, ‘Autumn Wings’ Gourd keeps its high ornamental value to the spring – this allows for decorating rooms using this one-of-a-kind variety that can also be grown as a cover plant.

White Pumpkins

There are many different varieties of White pumpkins that range from medium in size, averaging 20-38 centimeters in diameter and weighing 8-15 pounds, to large in size averaging 63-76 centimeters in diameter and weighing 60-90 pounds. White pumpkins can be globular, uniform, and round with shallow ribbing or they can be squat and slightly flattened in shape with pronounced ribbing. The smooth rind is white to ivory, and the flesh can be white or orange, dense, and firm encasing a central cavity filled with pulp and flat, cream-colored seeds. Depending on the variety of White pumpkin, some are edible and have a tender texture with a mild, earthy flavor. White pumpkins are available in the fall through early winter.
